Haas Series Repair
Haas ST Series Spindle Repair & Grinding
ST series lathe spindles span ST-10 through ST-55 with SSY Y-axis variants and the DS-30 dual-spindle. The line uses cartridge-style turning spindles with different bearing arrangements per size class. ST-10 and ST-20 chuckers see high-cycle bar work that wears the front bearings; ST-30 and larger see heavier axial cuts. DS-30 sub-spindles add synchronization verification after any sub-spindle service.

Common failure patterns
- Front bearing wear on ST-10 and ST-20 from sustained bar-feed production.
- Chuck cylinder leaks affecting spindle preload — common cause of downstream bearing failure.
- Sub-spindle alignment drift on DS-30 dual-spindle — requires synchronization verification after any spindle work.
- Larger spindle bearing wear on ST-40 and ST-50 from heavy axial cuts.
- Draw-tube wear on high-cycle bar production over years of cycle count.
Controls used on this series
Older ST machines run on Haas Classic Control; current ST-10 through ST-55 ship on NGC. DS-30 builds are typically on NGC by now; older DS-30s on Classic.
Lead time
Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
