Haas UMC Series Way Covers
UMC 5-axis way covers have to account for the trunnion table on top of the standard X/Y/Z protection. The trunnion adds rotational clearance constraints; the linear-axis covers have to clear the rotating workpiece envelope. Telescoping steel is standard for the linear axes; bellows or fabric covers are sometimes used for the trunnion-adjacent areas depending on the specific UMC configuration.
Models in this series we service

Common failure patterns
- X/Y/Z linear-axis covers — telescoping steel handles the 5-axis chip load.
- Trunnion-adjacent cover areas may use bellows or fabric depending on workpiece-envelope clearance.
- UMC-350 through UMC-1600 have substantially different way-travel dimensions — confirm during quoting.
- SS super-speed variants share the same cover dimensions as base UMC machines.
- 5-axis chip loads are different from 3-axis — covers see more lateral force during multi-axis cuts.
Controls used on this series
UMC way covers are OEM-available through Haas across the line. Custom fabrication is an option when specific trunnion-clearance requirements call for that path. Lead time is 2 to 4 weeks.
Lead time
Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
