DMG Mori Control Generation
Heidenhain TNC Repair on DMG Mori (iTNC 530, TNC 640)
Heidenhain TNC is the common control on DMG Mori's DMU and DMC 5-axis lines — iTNC 530 on legacy builds and TNC 640 on current. The TNC family is heavily used in mold and die work where its conversational programming and geometric capability shine. Service work mostly centers on keypad, encoder, and drive system.
Machines this control shipped on
Heidenhain TNC ships on the DMU/DMC 5-axis family — DMU 50 through DMU 340, monoBLOCK and duoBLOCK builds, DMU eVo, and the DMC universals. Most of the high-end DMG Mori 5-axis work runs on this control.
Common failures and fixes
- Keypad failure — heavy daily use makes this the most common single failure mode.
- Encoder drift — particularly on rotary-axis encoders for trunnion machines.
- Drive system faults on heavy 5-axis cuts.
- MC (Main Computer) board faults on older iTNC 530 builds.
- Memory battery loss.
Parts availability
Heidenhain TNC parts are well supported through Heidenhain and authorized service partners. iTNC 530 is heading toward late-life status; TNC 640 is fully current.
Battery, memory, and parameter recovery
Heidenhain TNC backup is well documented — back up parameters and tool tables to the network or USB before any work. We verify the restore at sign-off.
