Fanuc Control Generation

Spindle Service on Fanuc Series 6 / 10 / 11 / 12 / 15

Fanuc Series 6, 10, 11, 12, and 15 paired with the corresponding higher-end Fanuc spindle drives of their era. Series 15 in particular still sees active service on larger machines from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Spindle service patterns overlap with Series 0 but parts availability is sometimes better, particularly on Series 15.

Machines this control shipped on

Series 6 through 12 shipped on higher-end machines from various OEMs through the 1990s. Series 15 was common on larger and more sophisticated machines into the 2000s — including some larger Doosan and other Asian-OEM platforms running Fanuc-paired spindle drives.

Common failures and fixes

  • Memory battery loss affecting spindle parameters and tool tables.
  • Spindle drive amplifier obsolescence — generally still serviceable through remanufacturing specialists.
  • Encoder feedback issues at the control side.
  • Older PCB-level faults on spindle drive boards requiring remanufacturing.

Parts availability

Series 6 through 12 spindle drive parts are deep-legacy with most aftermarket-only. Series 15 still has better parts availability through Fanuc and remanufacturing specialists.

Battery, memory, and parameter recovery

Battery and spindle parameter recovery follows the standard Fanuc workflow — capture parameters before any battery work, replace battery on powered control, restore parameters as needed. Series 15 has somewhat better recovery tooling than the earlier siblings.
