Mazak Series Repair
Mazak Turning Legacy Spindle Repair & Grinding
Mazak's turning legacy spindles — Slant Turn 15/18/20 and Nexus, Multiplex 6000 through 6300, Megaturn vertical turning, HQR-150/200/250, Powermaster — are mechanically sound but increasingly parts-challenged. Bearing-pack rebuilds with current-supply parts are the standard service path; matching OEM bearings is sometimes the time-consuming step. We scope each job based on what's currently sourceable before quoting.

Common failure patterns
- Bearing-pack wear after decades of production cycles — the most common reason these machines come in.
- Taper wear from years of toolholder loading without regular regrinding.
- Spindle preload loss from worn drawbar or chuck cylinder components.
- Encoder issues on the legacy generation — replacement encoders sometimes require adapter work.
- Drive-side issues from older servo amplifiers — increasingly aftermarket-only on the oldest builds.
Controls used on this series
Slant Turn, Multiplex 6000, Megaturn, and the original HQR generation ran on Mazatrol Legacy controls — M-Plus and Fusion 640 are the most common pairings. Multiplex 6100 and later moved to Matrix. For the legacy generation, spindle service often runs in parallel with parameter backup and battery work because the control side is at the same late-life stage.
Lead time
Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
