DMG Mori Control Generation
Way Covers for Heidenhain TNC Era Machines
Way covers on DMG Mori machines running Heidenhain TNC are mostly the DMU and DMC 5-axis fleet. iTNC 530 era machines (2001-2012) split between OEM and custom-fab depending on configuration; TNC 640 era (2012-present) is mostly OEM-available. The 5-axis cover requirements are more complex than straight verticals — trunnion-adjacent areas often use bellows or fabric.
Machines this control shipped on
Heidenhain TNC ships on the DMU/DMC 5-axis family — DMU 50 through DMU 340, monoBLOCK and duoBLOCK builds, DMU eVo, and the DMC universals.
Common failures and fixes
- 5-axis trunnion-adjacent areas often use bellows or fabric rather than telescoping steel.
- iTNC 530 era covers (2001-2012) split between OEM and custom-fab.
- TNC 640 era covers (2012-present) are mostly OEM-available through DMG Mori.
- DMU monoBLOCK and duoBLOCK have different cover geometries from trunnion machines.
Parts availability
iTNC 530 era way covers are heading toward late-life on the parts side; some configurations are OEM-available, others require custom fabrication. TNC 640 era covers are mostly OEM-available.
Battery, memory, and parameter recovery
For older DMU machines with iTNC 530, custom fabrication to spec is increasingly the path — we build to your existing cover, the OEM drawing, or measurements off the machine. Lead time is 2 to 4 weeks. 5-axis cover sets can run slightly longer when the trunnion-adjacent areas need coordinated bellows fabrication.
