Mazak Series Repair
Mazak Variaxis Way Covers
Variaxis 5-axis trunnion-table covers are among the more demanding fabrication jobs in the Mazak lineup. The trunnion adds rotational clearance constraints; the X/Y/Z way covers have to clear the rotating workpiece envelope. We typically build telescoping steel for the linear axes and either bellows or roll-up for the trunnion-adjacent areas depending on the specific machine.

Common failure patterns
- X/Y/Z linear-axis covers — telescoping steel handles the chip load from 5-axis cuts.
- Trunnion-adjacent covers may use bellows or roll-up depending on clearance to rotating workpiece envelope.
- i-300 through i-800 builds have different way-travel dimensions — confirm during quoting.
- J-series and C-series compact builds have tighter clearance constraints than the i-series.
- Legacy Variaxis 500/630/730 covers are almost always custom fabrication at this point.
Controls used on this series
Current Variaxis i-series covers are still OEM-available through Mazak; legacy 500/630/730 are typically OEM-discontinued. We build to your exact spec from the original cover, the OEM drawing, or measurements off the machine. Lead time is 2 to 4 weeks.
Lead time
Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
