Okuma Series Repair
Okuma LB / LU Lathes Way Covers
LB and LU horizontal-lathe covers use telescoping steel as the default. Okuma's reputation for thermal stability extends to the way-cover sealing — covers tend to stay in spec longer than on lower-end platforms when the machine has been well maintained. LB 200 through LB 5000 EX cover dimensions scale with bed size; live-tool variants add additional axes.

Common failure patterns
- Telescoping steel covers — standard across LB and LU.
- Long-bed LB 4000 EX and LB 5000 EX have substantially longer covers than LB 200/250.
- Live-tool variants add live-tool turret cover considerations.
- LU 7000 and 8000 large-bore platforms have heavier-duty cover specifications.
Controls used on this series
Current LB and LU way covers are OEM-available through Okuma; older builds split between OEM and custom-fab. Legacy ES-L and ESV are typically custom-fab. Lead time is 2 to 4 weeks.
Lead time
Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
