Okuma MB / MA Way Covers
MB and MA vertical-machining covers are the Okuma vertical workhorses. MB-46V through MB-66V production verticals, MB-4000H/5000H horizontal-spindle builds, and MA-400 through MA-8000 larger-envelope platforms. Telescoping steel is the default; Okuma's thermal compensation framework helps cover dimensions stay stable over time when the machine is well maintained.

Common failure patterns
- X/Y/Z telescoping steel covers — standard across MB and MA.
- MB-4000H and MB-5000H horizontal-spindle builds have different cover geometry.
- MA-650 and MA-8000 large-envelope covers are substantially larger than MA-400/500.
- Thermal compensation framework affects cover dimensional stability over time.
Controls used on this series
Current MB and MA way covers are OEM-available through Okuma; older builds split between OEM and custom-fab. Legacy MV and MX-45 are typically custom-fab. Lead time is 2 to 4 weeks.
Lead time
Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
