Doosan Series Repair

Doosan Puma Horizontal Turning Repair

The Puma series is the Doosan turning workhorse — Puma 230 through Puma 800, with M/MS/LM/LY/Y/SY/SY II configuration variants, the heavier 4100 and 5100 builds, the GT compact lineup, the TT twin-turret builds, and the TW gantry-loaded variants. Most Midwest shop floors running Doosan have at least one Puma.

Common failure patterns

  • Turret indexing — solenoid, indexer pawl, position-encoder issues.
  • Sub-spindle alignment drift on SY twin-spindle configurations.
  • Y-axis backlash and ballscrew wear from heavy cuts.
  • Tailstock quill wear and pressure loss on long-bed builds.
  • Lower turret faults on the TT twin-turret builds.

Controls used on this series

Puma ships primarily on Fanuc — entry and mid-range Puma builds run Fanuc 0i (typically 0i-D or 0i-F), and higher-end Puma 2600SY, 3100, 4100, 5100, 700, and 800 builds run Fanuc 30i.

Lead time

Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
