DMG Mori Series Repair

DMG Mori DMU / DMC 5-Axis Spindle Repair & Grinding

DMU and DMC 5-axis spindles are the high-end of the DMG Mori vertical lineup — DMU 50 through DMU 340 trunnion-table machines, plus monoBLOCK and duoBLOCK builds, the DMU eVo, and DMC universal variants. Most see aerospace and mold-die finishing work where bearing pack precision is critical. RTCP and trunnion kinematic verification after spindle work is mandatory on these platforms.

Common failure patterns

  • Bearing pack wear from sustained high-RPM 5-axis finishing — primary failure mode on DMU.
  • Swivel head spindle bearing wear on monoBLOCK builds.
  • Taper damage from toolholder failure during 5-axis cuts.
  • Coolant intrusion at the spindle nose on heavy-coolant aluminum production.
  • RTCP and kinematic drift after spindle work — full re-calibration required as part of the rebuild.

Controls used on this series

DMU machines mostly ship on Heidenhain TNC (iTNC 530 on legacy, TNC 640 on current). DMC builds typically ship on Siemens 840D. All run under CELOS. Spindle parameter sets differ meaningfully between Siemens and Heidenhain — diagnostic and recovery procedures match the underlying control.

Lead time

Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
