Doosan Series Repair
Doosan Puma MX / SMX Multitasking Spindle Repair & Grinding
Puma MX and SMX mill-turn spindles add a B-axis milling spindle to the turning chassis — MX 1600 through MX 3100 with T/ST/SY variants, and the newer SMX 2100/2600/3100. The B-axis milling spindle is the high-stress component on these platforms because it sees mill-turn loads at varying angles. Post-rebuild B-axis kinematic verification is mandatory.
Models in this series we service
- Puma MX 2000
- Puma MX 2100
- Puma MX 2500
- Puma MX 2600
- Puma SMX 2100
- Puma SMX 2600
- Puma SMX 3100
Common failure patterns
- B-axis milling spindle bearing-pack wear from sustained mill-turn production — primary failure mode.
- Turning spindle bearing wear under heavy axial cuts.
- Lower turret spindle issues on twin-turret configurations.
- Sub-spindle synchronization drift on multi-axis transfer work.
- B-axis kinematic drift after spindle work — full re-verification required.
Controls used on this series
Puma MX and SMX ship on Fanuc 30i (Doosan) — typically 30i-B on current builds. The Fanuc 30i family provides the parameter visibility needed for multi-axis spindle service.
Lead time
Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
