Okuma Series Repair
Okuma LB / LU Lathe Spindle Repair & Grinding
Okuma LB and LU horizontal-lathe spindles span entry-production through large-bore turning — LB 200 through LB 5000 EX, LU 300 through LU 8000. Okuma builds spindles in-house under tight tolerances; the platform's reputation for thermal stability matters for service work because the wear patterns are predictable when the machine has been well maintained. Live-tool variants add live-tool drive considerations alongside the main spindle.

Common failure patterns
- Front bearing wear on heavily used LB and LU long-bed machines.
- Larger spindle bearing wear on LB 4000 EX and LB 5000 EX from heavy axial cuts.
- Tailstock quill wear affecting spindle-side work on long-bed configurations.
- Live-tool indexing issues on the live-tool variants.
- Spindle preload loss from chuck cylinder issues.
Controls used on this series
Older LB and LU run on OSP-P200; mid-life on OSP-P300; current LB 3000 EX II and LB 4000/5000 EX on OSP-P500. Legacy ES-L and ESV may still be on OSP Legacy.
Lead time
Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
