DMG Mori NLX / ALX Universal Turning Spindle Repair & Grinding

NLX and ALX universal-turning spindles span the broadest range in the DMG Mori lineup — entry NLX-1500 chuckers through large NLX-6000 long-bed turning, plus the ALX family. The spindles use cartridge-style designs across the line with bearing arrangements scaled to spindle size. Sub-spindle synchronization verification is part of any spindle work on SY/SMC twin-spindle configurations.

Models in this series we service

  • NLX 1500
  • NLX 2000
  • NLX 2500
  • NLX 3000
  • NLX 4000
  • NLX 6000
  • ALX 1500
  • ALX 2000
  • ALX 2500

Common failure patterns

  • Front bearing wear under sustained bar-feed production on smaller NLX builds.
  • Larger spindle bearing wear on NLX-6000 long-bed from heavy axial cuts.
  • Sub-spindle synchronization drift on SY and SMC twin-spindle configurations — requires verification after rebuild.
  • Live-tool spindle wear on the MY and SY mill-turn variants.
  • Spindle preload loss from chuck cylinder leaks affecting downstream bearing life.

Controls used on this series

NLX and ALX ship on Siemens 840D under the CELOS HMI. Spindle drive tuning happens at the Siemens 840D layer; CELOS handles the operator workflow around the underlying control.

Lead time

Lead time depends on the model, the failure mode, and parts availability. Diagnostic is fast; full rebuilds run 3 to 5 weeks on most jobs. We scope each job individually rather than quoting a generic window.
